Auriculotherapy is a reflexotherapy of an integument which usesthe ear pavilion as a reflex zone.
A few points were partly known in ancient times but the realdiscovery was made by Dr Paul NOGIER. In 1952 he gave the firsthypothesis and designed the first real chart illustrating thelocalization of reflex points (published in 1956).
Since then this technique became more precise and a lot ofresearch has been done on it. It was recognized by W.H.O. (WorldHealth Organization) in 1987, confirmed and standardized in 1990(Bulletin 68 (4) : 425-429, 1990.
In France, it is mainly practised by doctors and dental surgeons.
Auriculotherapy teachings are found on every continent ; thistechnique is for diagnosis and therapy.
The ear pavilion represents an image of different parts of thebody and internal organs ; this somatotopy is now well known.
On the one hand, the ear is an instrument panel on which we canobserve and detecte the different ailments and on the other hand itis a treatment zone.
The abundance of the vascularisation and inervation of the earexplains its role and its effectiveness.
Auriculotherapy does not dispense in any case with the classictechniques of diagnosis, it has its indication and contraindication.
Detection of the point on the ear
You can find it in different ways
1 - The pain
Normally a healthy person has no painful point on the ear.
In pathology one or several points become sensitive to pressure
2 - With a detector
Since Professor Senelar's work and that of Mrs Auziech and MrsTerral (Montpellier University).
The ultrastructure of the acupuncture point is better known,Professor J E H Niboyet has shown a lower skin electricity resistanceat their levels.
3 - With modification of the radial Pulse
It is a vasculo skin reflex released by different stimulations(méchanical, magnetic electromagnetic, colours....frequence..) applied on the pathology point.
These stimulations give a modification of the radial beating pulseeasily detected by a good observer. This diagnostic investigationtechnique is at the basis of Auriculomedecine.
Treatment of the reflexe point on the ear
The treatment can be done in different ways.
1-By massage with a smooth point.
2-By puncture with classic acupuncture needles or "semi permanent"small needles. They stay for a few days and fall out by themselves.
3-With microcurrents
Which treat the points without destroying them and are nearlypainless
4- With a soft laser
Which treats a point without spoiling it, the frequency used mustbe determined precisely : with the help of the V.A.S.(Auriculomedecine) we can study the frequentiel interference of thepathological point and treat it.
1-In emergency
To obtain quick relief but taking care not to hide the symptoms.

2-In Chronic pain
